Before I left for Asia, I was invited to receive an eye brow wax at this local Portland spot, Urban Waxx. I loved the natural elements of this NW spa and felt at home in the inviting entry way and waiting area. The hostest was warm and asked if I wanted any beverages before my appointment – how sweet! One of my favorite interior details was the wooden carved canvas on the far right wall, natural plants in the glass bowl, and the “Urban Waxx” painted sign on the silver wired hanging wall. Before and after my appointment I walked around and looked at all the great products they sold at Urban Waxx. Some of my favorite brands and products were displayed: Butter London, Tweezerman, and Serious Serum. Check out their online store here.

I didn’t have to wait long and was brought into a private, inviting room by my newly acquainted esthetician, Michelle Shware (check out more of Urban Waxx’s staff here). Michelle was professional, easy going and made me feel totally comfortable before, during and after my eyebrow wax. Michelle was thorough and gave me great tips on how to up keep my eyebrows in between waxes. If you are new to the Portland area or if you need a new waxer check out this popular Portland favorite wax spot. Remember – book in advance or online here! They do accept walk-ins but this popular and well kept wax spot gets booked up pretty quickly. If the NW location is not convenient for you, check out their other locations here or below. Need to add a bikini wax to your order? No problem – check out their full menu here. I hope you have an awesome first experience like I did. Check out Urban Waxx for your next appointment!

Pretty Things: Red + Pink + White

Valentine flowers

Valentine flowers

Hello~ I would like to apologize for my lack of posts this past week. It’s been a crazy transitional period in my life: possible new city, new travel opportunities, new endeavors – all exciting and very crazy.  I can’t wait to share all these things with you once they become a reality.  Secondly, I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s day. I shared this picture with you on Tangerine Tote’s Facebook page here, but I hope everyone had a nice Valentine’s day eating chocolates, watching silly romantic movies and maybe spending time with a significant other.

Portland Flea with Mochi Tsuruda

Portland Flea with Mochi Tsuruda

Mochi and I had a fantastic weekend! We were able to visit and interview Kate Keefe Sullivan, the owner and creator of the Portland Flea. I love interviewing inspirational individuals that start a business or organization based on their dream or vision. Kate was so passionate about the Portland Flea, her vendors well being and the type of merchandise they sell. It was great seeing her talk about her dream and then actually seeing it in reality. Very inspiring.

Mochi and I had a ball on Sunday. It’s great to spend all my time with her on the weekends. Mochi just finished puppy school on Tuesday and I am excited to show off her new skills at the office this week! I am lucky because I have the opportunity to bring my dog to work and Mochi will make a great office addition.

The Whole Bowl photo editing - lazy Sunday

The Whole Bowl photo editing – lazy Saturdays

I love editing photos in the morning. It’s refreshing to look at great images while sipping on a homemade latte. I had such a wonderful time chatting with Tim from The Whole Bowl. I received his “thank you” note and inside was a Whole Bowl gift card for my next three BIG whole bowls! THANK YOU! One of the best gifts I could ever ask for.

My new addition to my vintage goods. This $5.00 find at the Portland Flea last Sunday just put a cherry on top of a perfect Sunday. SCORE!

fortune truth

Ha! HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! It’s the year of the snake and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s my year, yippee!  I am currently taking this Chinese New Year in stride. I can’t wait to see what happens. After my boss returned from London last week he gave me a fortune cookie with this fortune stating, “stop taking pictures with your iPhone and start talking to the person next to you.” Naturally, I had to take a picture of this. ha! Xin Nian Kuai Le everyone! xx .. and what better way to kick off Chinese new year with a trip to Hong Kong and Shanghai?

Hong Kong

Hong Kong – 2012

Last April, I said goodbye to this magical city. I took this instagram (@teditsuruda) photo on my very last and most rememberable night in Hong Kong. Honestly it couldn’t have been more lovelier. I am so excited to return to Hong Kong, because it seriously is going to be amazing for many reasons. I can’t wait to take pictures, walk alongside the Hong Kong harbor, and to top all of it off, I get to see my best friend, Winnie Tsui and travel in Hong Kong and China with two of my sorority sisters from college. It’s going to feel amazing being back in my old stomping grounds. See you in two weeks, Hong Kong! After visiting several days in Hong Kong, I get to visit my absolute favorite city in the world, Shanghai. I can’t necessarily describe why I love Shanghai so much. I think one of the reasons is because in this city I have never felt so much inspiration in one place. I can’t wait to share all my travel and fashion diaries with you.

Stay tuned and I hope everyone has a fabulous week. Thanks for reading this week’s Pretty Things. xx

Pretty Things: Pink

French Macaron

French Macaron

Pink is definitely the color of this week’s, “Pretty Things.” It has been a crazy couple of days for me but I am so happy it’s Friday. I am excited for the weekend so I can do more awesome projects like featuring store reviews, concocting and sharing my favorite cocktail recipes, and more crafted DIY projects. I have really enjoyed taking pictures and learning new camera tricks on my SONY NEX. I love it! BTW this french macaron is so yummy (literally melted in my mouth). Check out my review on the cafe, Nuvrei here.

Daily Arm Candy

Daily Arm Candy

My favorite: stacking bracelets. I added more colors and a Chan Luu wrap bracelet on top of my usual “daily arm candy.” To get this look, stack as many as you want! Try not to go overboard, and to prevent this, add more narrow pieces instead of bulky ones.

Sun

It’s been both freezing and sunny in Portland this past week. When my skin is exposed to cold temperatures (low 30s), I usually double up on the moisturizer and apply more hydrating face masks more regularly. Try LUSH face masks if you are unsure of what a moisturizing face mask is. I like the people at LUSH because they are super helpful and let you sample as many products as you want. Right now, I am using the BB Seaweed mask. It’s great for balancing out my skin’s oils and keeping my usual dry spots around my chin extra hydrated (and not oily).

Photographing My Zara Boots

Photographing My Zara Boots

I can’t tell you how much I love these Zara boots. I love photographing and featuring fun shoes and accessories on my blog. These boots are really fun to wear and  they definitely make a statement. If you ever wear “loud” shoes make sure you keep it simple on top. These shoes make a statement on their own.

Pink Cosmo

Pink Cosmo

Yumm.. need I say more? This is a picture from my Wednesday after work “pick me up.” I have grown very fond to cosmopolitans. My mother and her friends usually always have a batch of cosmos in their freezers during the summer and around the holiday seasons\. It is their drink of choice. I can’t wait to share my recipe with you! Stay tuned.

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about doing store features on local boutiques and cafes. I have been wanting to do this for a long time. I am pretty shy when it comes to photography and asking business owners to let me feature their store on my blog. These interviews and imagery are really helping boost my confidence and initiative skills. I can’t wait to share these places with you. xx

Makeup + Skincare + Hair

makeup
The world of makeup. As you can see I have many favorites but different brands for different areas for my face. I use Laura Mercier primarily as my skin’s foundation, NARSBenefit + Stila for my cheeks, NARS for my eye shadows, Imju Fiberwig mascara for long lashes, elf cosmetic brushes for application, BOBBI BROWN for eyeliner, and Sephora + MAC + Rosebud for my lips. I found the perfect cosmetic case when I was in Target during their colaboration with Neiman Marcus. I found this Tory Burch lunchbox for $19.99 it fits all my makeup and it’s perfect for traveling. Click on the image for product information via Tangerine Tote’s Polyvore.

skin101
In my recent “Pretty Things” post I discuss the importance of having your own skin care 101. I have read in countless magazines about how important it is to have a daily skin regimin. It takes time to know what products your skin likes and dislikes. Once you get in a routine, stay with it!!!  If you want to add a skin product, slowly introduce it to your skin and see how it reacts.

Morning:

Night

Being firm and diligent every morning/evening is important for your skin care. When I travel I bring extra moisturizers, drink extra water and vitamins also help keep your skin looking and feeling fresh. Check out more information of the products on Tangerine Tote’s Polyvore.

hair101
I have used different hair products but these are a few of my favorites. Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner are great vegan products for washing your hair and keeping your hair color safe. They smell minty fresh and the conditioner leaves a cooling, tingling sensation on my scalp. The Prive Relaxing Gel is great for people who have long hair, especially if it’s wavy  The Prive dry shampoo is awesome for mornings when you are in a rush. The spray is super light and smells fresh and it doesn’t make your hair oily or sticky. The Moroccan Oil makes my hair look strong and sleek but it also makes it feel silky smooth. Check out more information of the products on Tangerine Tote’s Polyvore.

Pretty Things

LUSH Cupcake Mask

LUSH Cupcake Mask

I am obsessed with doing My BEAUTY 101 everday. This consists of having a daily skin regimin every morning and night. I love my Mia 2 Clarisonic, Kheils Gentle Foaming Cleanser, Clinique Dramatically Different Gel, and Neutrogena Hydrating Eye Cream. To give my skin the extra TLC it needs I also include a 2-3 times a week face mask. My best friend, Winnie Tsui (click here), a beauty blogger from Hong Kong swears by this refrigerated LUSH Cupcake Mask. It’s lovely. TIP: Make your own strict BEAUTY 101 and wear hydrating eye cream every night. You’ll thank me later, I promise.

accent nail
My favorite is the accent nail, especially when it’s gold or silver. I continued the gold accents with my accessories by adding a two band gold ring. TIP: Keep your look fresh and daring. It’s nice to look down at your fingers and see something new and out of the ordinary. An accent nail color is fabulous. Also, for quick drying top coats, check out Essie’s “Good To Go” Topcoat (click here).

decorated lattes

decorated lattes

I love decorated lattes or espresso, americanos or just plain coffee for that matter. Caffeine fuels my advertising company. I love to treat myself and walk over to Barista and get one of their delicious lattes. TIP: I really don’t have too big of a tip for ordering coffee. However, calories run wild once your start adding syrups, whole milk, sugar packets and whipped cream into your daily coffee. I had a chat with my boss who got married this summer and she said she completely cut sugar and creamery out of her morning coffee. She said she felt and saw a difference. Ladies and gents, this could be your answer to cut down on those extra calories and work towards your New Year’s resolutions.

studded loafer

studded loafer

My classic: studs + prints. I love this look. I actually wore these Hurley Jeans and Jeffrey Campbell studded loafers yesterday (despite the freezing temperature). Don’t be afraid to mix crazy prints and shoes. I can’t begin to tell you how many compliments I get on these jeans. TIP: Like I have said before, don’t be afraid to be daring. If it’s ridiculous, it’s ridiculous. But the main goal and objective you want to achieve is, is that you feel awesome and excited about your look. To make this happen, take a look in the mirror.  Start swapping different flats, pumps or heels with your pants. Wear a plain sweater or top instead of adding a shirt with too much different colors and patterns. Think of it as you are doing the “reverse your clothes.”

Birthday accessories

Birthday accessories

Love these studded boots from Zara. TIP: Always bring out the best accessories for your birthday: champagne + shoes.
