Pretty Things: Pink

French Macaron

French Macaron

Pink is definitely the color of this week’s, “Pretty Things.” It has been a crazy couple of days for me but I am so happy it’s Friday. I am excited for the weekend so I can do more awesome projects like featuring store reviews, concocting and sharing my favorite cocktail recipes, and more crafted DIY projects. I have really enjoyed taking pictures and learning new camera tricks on my SONY NEX. I love it! BTW this french macaron is so yummy (literally melted in my mouth). Check out my review on the cafe, Nuvrei here.

Daily Arm Candy

Daily Arm Candy

My favorite: stacking bracelets. I added more colors and a Chan Luu wrap bracelet on top of my usual “daily arm candy.” To get this look, stack as many as you want! Try not to go overboard, and to prevent this, add more narrow pieces instead of bulky ones.

Sun

It’s been both freezing and sunny in Portland this past week. When my skin is exposed to cold temperatures (low 30s), I usually double up on the moisturizer and apply more hydrating face masks more regularly. Try LUSH face masks if you are unsure of what a moisturizing face mask is. I like the people at LUSH because they are super helpful and let you sample as many products as you want. Right now, I am using the BB Seaweed mask. It’s great for balancing out my skin’s oils and keeping my usual dry spots around my chin extra hydrated (and not oily).

Photographing My Zara Boots

Photographing My Zara Boots

I can’t tell you how much I love these Zara boots. I love photographing and featuring fun shoes and accessories on my blog. These boots are really fun to wear and  they definitely make a statement. If you ever wear “loud” shoes make sure you keep it simple on top. These shoes make a statement on their own.

Pink Cosmo

Pink Cosmo

Yumm.. need I say more? This is a picture from my Wednesday after work “pick me up.” I have grown very fond to cosmopolitans. My mother and her friends usually always have a batch of cosmos in their freezers during the summer and around the holiday seasons\. It is their drink of choice. I can’t wait to share my recipe with you! Stay tuned.

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about doing store features on local boutiques and cafes. I have been wanting to do this for a long time. I am pretty shy when it comes to photography and asking business owners to let me feature their store on my blog. These interviews and imagery are really helping boost my confidence and initiative skills. I can’t wait to share these places with you. xx

Makeup + Skincare + Hair

makeup
The world of makeup. As you can see I have many favorites but different brands for different areas for my face. I use Laura Mercier primarily as my skin’s foundation, NARSBenefit + Stila for my cheeks, NARS for my eye shadows, Imju Fiberwig mascara for long lashes, elf cosmetic brushes for application, BOBBI BROWN for eyeliner, and Sephora + MAC + Rosebud for my lips. I found the perfect cosmetic case when I was in Target during their colaboration with Neiman Marcus. I found this Tory Burch lunchbox for $19.99 it fits all my makeup and it’s perfect for traveling. Click on the image for product information via Tangerine Tote’s Polyvore.

skin101
In my recent “Pretty Things” post I discuss the importance of having your own skin care 101. I have read in countless magazines about how important it is to have a daily skin regimin. It takes time to know what products your skin likes and dislikes. Once you get in a routine, stay with it!!!  If you want to add a skin product, slowly introduce it to your skin and see how it reacts.

Morning:

Night

Being firm and diligent every morning/evening is important for your skin care. When I travel I bring extra moisturizers, drink extra water and vitamins also help keep your skin looking and feeling fresh. Check out more information of the products on Tangerine Tote’s Polyvore.

hair101
I have used different hair products but these are a few of my favorites. Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner are great vegan products for washing your hair and keeping your hair color safe. They smell minty fresh and the conditioner leaves a cooling, tingling sensation on my scalp. The Prive Relaxing Gel is great for people who have long hair, especially if it’s wavy  The Prive dry shampoo is awesome for mornings when you are in a rush. The spray is super light and smells fresh and it doesn’t make your hair oily or sticky. The Moroccan Oil makes my hair look strong and sleek but it also makes it feel silky smooth. Check out more information of the products on Tangerine Tote’s Polyvore.

LUSH Cupcake Mask

LUSH Cupcake Mask

I am obsessed with doing My BEAUTY 101 everday. This consists of having a daily skin regimin every morning and night. I love my Mia 2 Clarisonic, Kheils Gentle Foaming Cleanser, Clinique Dramatically Different Gel, and Neutrogena Hydrating Eye Cream. To give my skin the extra TLC it needs I also include a 2-3 times a week face mask. My best friend, Winnie Tsui (click here), a beauty blogger from Hong Kong swears by this refrigerated LUSH Cupcake Mask. It’s lovely. TIP: Make your own strict BEAUTY 101 and wear hydrating eye cream every night. You’ll thank me later, I promise.

accent nail
My favorite is the accent nail, especially when it’s gold or silver. I continued the gold accents with my accessories by adding a two band gold ring. TIP: Keep your look fresh and daring. It’s nice to look down at your fingers and see something new and out of the ordinary. An accent nail color is fabulous. Also, for quick drying top coats, check out Essie’s “Good To Go” Topcoat (click here).

decorated lattes

decorated lattes

I love decorated lattes or espresso, americanos or just plain coffee for that matter. Caffeine fuels my advertising company. I love to treat myself and walk over to Barista and get one of their delicious lattes. TIP: I really don’t have too big of a tip for ordering coffee. However, calories run wild once your start adding syrups, whole milk, sugar packets and whipped cream into your daily coffee. I had a chat with my boss who got married this summer and she said she completely cut sugar and creamery out of her morning coffee. She said she felt and saw a difference. Ladies and gents, this could be your answer to cut down on those extra calories and work towards your New Year’s resolutions.

studded loafer

studded loafer

My classic: studs + prints. I love this look. I actually wore these Hurley Jeans and Jeffrey Campbell studded loafers yesterday (despite the freezing temperature). Don’t be afraid to mix crazy prints and shoes. I can’t begin to tell you how many compliments I get on these jeans. TIP: Like I have said before, don’t be afraid to be daring. If it’s ridiculous, it’s ridiculous. But the main goal and objective you want to achieve is, is that you feel awesome and excited about your look. To make this happen, take a look in the mirror.  Start swapping different flats, pumps or heels with your pants. Wear a plain sweater or top instead of adding a shirt with too much different colors and patterns. Think of it as you are doing the “reverse your clothes.”

Birthday accessories

Birthday accessories

Love these studded boots from Zara. TIP: Always bring out the best accessories for your birthday: champagne + shoes.

Create a space that inspires you and makes you smile.

My bed side table: create a space that inspires you and makes you smile.

“Good design has to tell a story. It has to stop people, and it has to make them wonder.   Good design is a conversation.” – Zahid Sardan

Happy Monday, everyone! It has been a week full of wonderful things and sometimes there isn’t enough content to write an entire post about it. From now on, every week, I want to share with you pretty things I find that inspire me for new posts to come, hence the title “Pictures of Pretty Things.” Look for this post every Monday or Tuesday of each week. Most of these photos are on my Instagram (@TediTsuruda). Enjoy. xx

Easy, simple: pomegranate seeds floating in champagne

Easy, simple: pomegranate seeds floating in champagne

To all of my fashionistas out there. There is nothing more simple nor more delicious than champagne and pomegranate seeds. All you need is one pomegranate and a couple bottles of bubbly and your book club or “drinks before going out” is complete. Cheers! Check out my Sparkling Pomegranate Cocktail Recipe click here.

My favorite NARS palette: Orgasm/ Laguna - peachy-pink shimmer/ sheer light brown shimmer

My favorite NARS palette: Orgasm/ Laguna – peachy-pink shimmer/ sheer light brown shimmer

I love opening up a new NARS palette. It feels like Christmas! I have been using this palette for over seven years… (crazy? nahh). NARS’ Orgasm blush is a perfect peachy color accompanied with just the right amount of shimmer. NARS’ Laguna bronzer is matte and is great to wear for all seasons. Both of these are highly pigmented meaning that their shelf life lasts forever. This is my go to blush and bronzer, but I always like to mess around with bright, bold colors. REMEMBER: If you are on the fence about investing in an expensive item of makeup, just think about how long you are going to have it. Investing in good blush and/or bronzer is a good idea. I would rather spend more money on a good blush and bronzer than an expensive lip gloss. Why? For one, I misplace lipgloss like it’s my job and secondly sometimes if my lipgloss stays in my purse too long or if it’s left in a car on a hot summer day, it doesn’t smell very good.  Remember, “shelf life” when you are shopping for your next makeup purchase.

Crisp, sunny fall day in Portland

Crisp, sunny fall day in Portland

It’s pure bliss when it’s sunny in Portland. It is awfully rainy and gray these days, so when the sun is out, so am I! Even if it’s cold, I want to stand in the sun for as long as I can. REMEMBER: Wear SPF everyday! No matter what (even if it’s raining or cloudy).

Studded gold leggings, Mochi, and a bright Zara bag (perfect combo)

Studded gold leggings, Mochi, and a bright Zara bag (perfect combo)

My little Mochi ball loves to hang out with me when I get ready. She loves to stand under my blow dryer or jump up and say hello. I love MoChI very much but she isn’t the reason why I wanted to share this photo. I am obsessed with crazy pants, whether they’re sequin, patterned, leather, in this case studded. I LOVE THESE!  REMEMBER: Always add a pop of color to your look (purse, accessory, nails, lip stick, jewelry), it stands out from the traditional black and people will notice, promise. I really want to write a photo blog post about these leggings and a bright bag. -Perfect Idea for this week, stay tuned!

Holiday Gift List for Him and Her

Happy Holidays! Last year on my tumblr, I made a “10 Gifts for Under $10.”  However, this year, I made a list of hot items that he and she will love! I hope this wish list helps everyone on their shopping adventures this Holiday Season. Below each picture there is a link to each product and description of why it made it on my top wish list for this year’s Holiday gifts 2012!

Gifts for Her 2012

  1. BAIES Candle (click here): I picked this candle because they smell great, it’s fabulous to have on your coffee table, and it is the perfect lux gift to give your high profile BFF. A Baies candle is the way to go.
  2. Clarisonic Mia 2 (click here):  Have you ever tried a Clarisonic? If you haven’t then you need one for yourself, but if you have then it is time to share the love with someone else. If there is one skin routine I can’t live without, it’s my Clarisonic Mia 2.
  3. C Wonder Chevron Tea Light Votive Set (click here):  When I walked into the C Wonder store in NY, it reminded me of a Tory Burch meets Anthropologie meets Trina Turk: bold colors, funky interior, clothing, accessories and housewares. However, out of all the beautiful things I saw, these Moroccan tea glasses caught my eye. I think these are the perfect gift for the girl who loves to entertain and sip on tea.
  4. Hunter Back Classic Rain Boots (click here):  I can’t even begin to tell you how much I use my classic, black Hunter Rain Boots here in the Pacific Northwest. I love how well Hunter boots are made and how durable they are when I take Mochi to the park. I have had mine for almost two years and they are perfect for people who live in the rain, snowy Manhattan and pretty much anywhere. Love these.
  5. Laura Mercier Mini Lip Set (click here):  Laura Mercier is one of my favorite makeup lines. What I like about this mini lip set is that you get four great colors for an even better price. All her lip glosses smell like vanilla and are highly pigmented meaning that  you don’t need to use too much for beautiful, bold lips.
  6. Lululemon Yoga Mat (click here):  For your yogi friends! I love this yoga mat because it’s durable, light weight and trendy. If you are looking to get something for your boss and know they love yoga, then this is the perfect gift. Just throw in a pair of yoga tights and it turns into the perfect Holiday gift for your boss.
  7. Stella&Dot Gold Spike Bracelet (click here): I have never received so many compliments on a single piece of jewelry. I have the silver bracelet, but the gold makes a statement. I love it. I was actually surprised how durable it is. I have had mine since May 2012 and I wear it everyday. It’s my go to wrist accessory.
  8. Target Junior Pajamas  (click here): Pajamas are great stocking stuffers, and for $25.00 how can you go wrong? I love the gold polkadots and black trim, perfect for Christmas morning.
  9. NARS Debbie Harry Eye and Cheek Palette (click here): Every Christmas I am so excited to see what Holiday palette NARS is coming out with. Out of all the makeup I’ve tried, NARS has the best blush and eye shadow. NARS’ super pigmented formula makes these palettse last a life time, just make sure you use good shadow brushes.
  10. Pana Paw’s Beaded Leather Dog Collar (click here): Why not give the gift that keeps on giving? Pana Paw’s beaded dog collars are perfect for your fashionista friend who also cares for the wellness of animals but also likes her pup accessorized as much as she does. Mochi Tsuruda (my maltese puppy) will be getting her personalized, “Mochi”  Pana Paws Dog collar this Christmas. A percentage of each dog collar purchased goes to a dog foundation in Guatemala.

Gifts for Him 2012

  1. Apple iPad Mini (click here): Do you know a guy who likes the latest and greatest? Give him the gift he’ll use and love. Apple’s iPad Mini is perfect for business trips, train commutes, and reading through flipboard.
  2. Jack Spade Work Twill Haversack (click here): I picked this Jack Spade over the shoulder bag because it’s trendy and casual. Now that I work in advertising I notice the guys at work carry backpacks and cross over body bags all the time. I think this bag works well for every guy in the building, as well as my boyfriend who is in accounting, very versatile.
  3. Nixon The Private Watch (click here): What active guy doesn’t like Nixon? I have always been impressed with Nixon’s designs. I think their price point is dead on and the designs are always exquisite.  Give your dude a gift he’ll truly wear everywhere!
  4. J. Crew Pajamas (click here): Pajamas are a thoughtful gift and like I said above, who can have too many pajamas? Perfect for a late morning brunch on Christmas morning.
  5. Nike+ Fuel Band (click here):  Have an athlete in the house? Give him this perfect present for the New Year. This device calculates your daily movement and encourages you to make your daily active goal.
  6. RVCA Jacket (click here): Trendy jackets and outerwear make great gifts for the ultra stylish guy. I like RVCA for guys. I  am always impressed with the materials they use and their tailored looks.
  7. Pana Paw’s Leather Dog Collar (click here): They say a dog is a man’s best friend. Give him the gift that supports a dog foundation in Guatemala. These embroidered leather dog collars are durable, look fantastic and helps out a cause! What guy wouldn’t want this dog collar on his pup?
  8. Jack Spade Herringbone Bill Holder (click here): I am surprised how fast guys go through wallets. Again, Jack Spade is on target with their leather goods. I love this playful, trendy wallet. Isn’t it time your guy changed his? Get him something he’ll love showing off, especially when he is spending that cheddar! Ha!
  9. Hydro Flask Water Bottle (click here): Imagine a BPA-free water bottle that stays cold for 24 hours and steamy hot for 12 and on top of that comes with a lifetime warranty? I don’t think I need to say more! He’ll love it
  10. Ugg Slippers (click here): Cozy, durable slippers make a perfect gift for your guy on chilly winter mornings. Warm his feet and his heart with a pair of Ugg slippers. Trust me, he’ll never want to take them off.
